FTC Mentoring
In 2021, we had four students mentor the FTC teams, 8533 and 17207. We’ve grown that number to 8 student mentors, and it is growing each year. The mentors help to teach the FTC students how to drive the robot, code, scout, strategize and prepare for presentations.
In addition to the student mentors for the FTC teams, we also have a number of students come out and show support during the FTC competitions.

Safe Town
Over the summer, we partnered with General Motors to attend 4 summer camps called Safe Town, reaching over 100 kids. At these camps, we helped GM gather seat suppression data, as well as demonstrating safe seat belt use and being safe in and around vehicles. The data we helped collect was to determine when an air bag should be on or off if a child is in the front seat. We also brought a demo robot to demonstrate driver distraction to the kids.
CSA Arcade Building
This season, we volunteered in the kindergarten classes at our elementary school. Since the kids were building their own arcade games, we assisted them as “build experts”, helping them to cut materials and assemble their games. It was so fun to see their designs come to life and the happiness it brought the kids to have high schoolers assisting them.
Girls in STEM Robotics Workshop
In November of 2022, we hosted our first girls in STEM robotics workshop. We hosted another one in February of 2023. These workshops ignited a flame of curiosity and wonder for STEM in the girls who attended. These workshops introduced girls into the many diverse aspects of robotics including coding, prototyping and building, as well as getting the opportunity to drive a robot! We had a ton of fun brightening the young minds of future GEMS!
Meals on Wheels
This holiday season, we wrapped over 300 gifts wrapped for families in need for Christmas.
Robotics Scavenger Hunt
Since 2021, we have hosted an annual scavenger hunt. This scavenger hunt helps to spread the message of FIRST within our community by using clues that tie directly into FIRST's core values. This event also provides our team, as well as many other teams that we invite, with the opportunity to network through teamwork and coopertition. We love to see how people work together to solve clues around downtown Brighton!
Color Run
Each year, our team helps to host our school’s Color Run with our robot. At this event, we demonstrate our robot’s capabilities to the people who attend the event, while also spreading the message of FIRST by word of mouth through students talking about our team. In 2022, we used the robot from that season to play a game of catch with the students. We had them catch the cargo and then give it back to the robot.
Charyl's Run2BFit
Our team helps host our school's annual race called Charyl's Run2BFit. Our team runs all of the timing equipment for this race, demonstrating our team’s computer skills and team spirit. This is important because it controls the outcome of the winners of the race. We help host this event every year, making a more meaningful impact on our community.
